Lahjakas poika lähetettiin 12-vuotiaana saamaan oppia Hämeenlinnan triviaalikouluun, jossa Jaakko Heikinpojalle annettiin nimeksi Jacob Judén. Judén säilyi Juteinin virallisena nimenä ja ruotsinkielisten kirjoitusten tekijänimenä, vaikka suomenkieliseksi kirjailijanimeksi vakiintui myöhemmin Jak. Juteini.
