Työkoulua varten vuokrattiin vuonna 1890 silloisen Panimokadun varrelta Vanajaveden rannalta 1860-luvulla rakennettu kaksikerroksinen tiilitalo. Kun tilaan ei mahtunut kangaspuita, Fredrika siirsi koulun kotiinsa. Oppilaita oli aluksi kahdeksan. Vuonna 1890 käsityökoulua varten vuokrattiin Vanajaveden rannalta talo, jonka Wetterhoff osti kolme vuotta myöhemmin koulun toimipaikaksi. Talossa oli aikaisemmin ollut mm. yleinen sauna, joten korjauksia oli tehtävä: yläkertaan rakennettiin kutomosalit, johtajattaren asunto ja oppilasasuntoja.
