Mikkola ehdotti Osakunnan kokouksessa, että Osakunta ryhtyisi hankkimaan tutkimuksia Satakunnan luonnosta sekä sen entisistä ja nykyisistä oloista, sen henkisestä ja aineellisesta kehityksestä ja muodostaisi niistä julkaisun, jonka tarkoituksena olisi Satakunnan kaikinpuolinen valaiseminen. Ensimmäinen kirja "Satakunta - Kotiseutututkimuksia I" ilmestyi 1907. Näistä kotiseutututkimuksista syntyi hiljalleen kirjasarja, joka nykyään käsittää 25 osaa ja sisältää tuhansia sivuja (tarkalleen 7379) tutkittua tietoa Satakunnan historiasta, luonnonoloista ja tapakulttuurista. Sarjan seuraava osa XXVI (Satakunta Suuren Pohjan sodan aikana) julkaistaan tämän vuoden aikana. Satakuntalainen Osakunta julkaisi sarjaa 18 ensimmäistä osaa vuoteen 1967 mennessä jolloin julkaiseminen tyrehtyi useiksi vuosikymmeniksi. Sarjaa alettiin julkaista uudelleen vuosituhannen vaihteessa, jolloin Satakunnan historiallinen seura pyysi Osakunnalta lupaa julkaista Satakuntaan kohdistuvia tutkimuksia nimellä Satakunta -Kotiseutututkimuksia ja näin siis sarja käynnistyi uudelleen. Näitä uudempia julkaisuja on ehtinyt tähän mennessä kertyä kuusi kappaletta. Kirjasarjan osa XX oli Osakunnan julkaisema. Se oli historian teos Satakuntalaisesta Osakunnasta vuosilta 1950-2000. Osan XXI on julkaissut Emil Cedercreutzin säätiö. Muissa teoksissa julkaisija on ollut Satakunnan historiallinen seura. Vuonna 1756 Kajaanin kirkonkokouksessa ehdotettiin, että joku "taitava naishenkilö" lähetettäisiin Tukholmaan opiskelemaan kätilöksi. Seurakuntalaiset puolestaan ehdottivat, että Tukholmalmasta palkattaisiin Kajaaniin oppinut kätilö. Näin ei kuitenkaan lopulta tehty. Vuodesta 1850 alkaen toimi kätilönä leipurin rouva Maria Mathilda Svedlin, jolla ei ollut tutkintoa mutta joka oli saanut taitonsa kokemuksen kautta.
