Lammin reservikomppania oli Hämeenlinnan tarkka-ampujapataljoonaan kuulunut sotilasyksikkö. Kasarmit rakennettiin 1880-luvulla, ja ne olivat sotilaskäytössä vuosisadan vaihteeseen saakka, jolloin tarkka-ampujapataljoonat ja reservikomppaniat lakkautettiin. Kasarmien ajan rakennuksia ovat alipäällystön asuinrakennus, ns. vääpelin talo ja komppanian päällikön asuin- ja toimistorakennus, molemmat täysin muutettuja, sekä kolme ruutikellaria. <br />Suomen itsenäistymisen jälkeen kasarmilla toimi ensin vankisiirtola ja vuosina 1919–1923 varavankila. Lammin työlaitos aloitti toimintansa vuonna 1924. Alueen keskellä kohoava kivinen klassistinen asuntolarakennus on arkkitehti Matti Paalasen suunnittelema. Rakennus valmistui vuonna 1927. Työlaitokseen voitiin määrätä ojennettavaksi mm. kunnalliskotien niskuroivia hoidokkeja, irtolaisia ja päihdyttävien aineiden väärinkäyttäjiä. Vuoden 1925 vuosikertomukseen on kirjattu työlaitoksen perustamisajankohdan mukainen toiminta-ajatus: "... Työlaitos on olemassa hyvä piiska köyhäinhoitolautakunnille. Varsinkin kunnalliskodeissa tämä piiska tunnetaan hyvin, sillä jos elämä syystä tai toisesta alkaa kunnalliskodeissa käydä rauhattomaksi, ei tarvitse kuin rauhanhäiritsijälle sanoa että lähetetään Lammille, niin tämä sana Lammille vaikuttaa kuin rauhan enkeli…" Työlaitoksen oheen perustettiin alkoholistihuoltola 1946, ja vuonna 1984 laitoksen nimeksi tuli Mainiemen kuntoutumiskeskus. Kuntoutumiskeskuksen toiminta päättyi syksyllä 2014.
